Job opportunity for a Biostatistician

CBR conducts large-scale, community-based aging studies in rural and urban populations to decipher cognitive changes due to normal aging, Alzheimer’s disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders. Detailed multi-modal assessments (including clinical, cognitive, biochemical, genetic, and brain imaging studies) along with long-term follow-up are carried out in mission mode as part of these flagship research projects.

 

CBR is inviting applications from highly motivated individuals for the position of Biostatistician.

Overview

This position involves playing a key role in the design, analysis, and interpretation of clinical research studies and outcomes, ensuring the highest standards of statistical integrity and rigor. It requires a strong background in biostatistics and research methodology and a passion for improving healthcare outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop protocols including study design, sample size/power calculations, randomization, and statistical analysis plan for assigned studies
  • Create statistical analysis plans, including hypothesis testing and survival analysis, and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of statistical input into reports or decisions.
  • Perform statistical analyses and interpret results
  • Lead the design, implementation, analysis, and reporting on statistical research studies/sub-studies
  • Advise investigators on experimental design, statistical research approaches, and related requirements
  • Support the preparation of research grant proposals and reports
  • Carry out other job-related duties as assigned by PI/Co-PI/Director from time to time.

Qualification and Skills

Essential

  • PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related discipline
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in biostatistics or statistical analysis in R&D
  • Strong grasp of statistical theory and applications (including trial design and analysis)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging trends in statistical analysis methodology
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R, SAS, Stata or Python
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and demonstrated independent research skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Desirable

  • Experience with adaptive trial designs, Bayesian methods, and machine learning algorithms
  • Experience with systematic reviews and meta-analyses
  • Experience with grant writing and research funding

Job opportunity for a Clinical Epidemiologist

CBR is inviting applications from highly motivated individuals for the position of Clinical Epidemiologist.

Overview

This position involves playing a key role in the strategic implementation of large longitudinal cohort studies on aging conducted by CBR. The Clinical Epidemiologist will serve as a subject matter expert to provide insights for epidemiological methods, statistical procedures, and other advanced methodological issues.

Key responsibilities

  • Work closely with Principal Investigators of ongoing and future cohort/clinical studies to identify and refine research questions and to plan, design, and carry out analyses for epidemiological investigations
  • Support the development and implementation of study protocols, statistical analysis plans, and scientific reports
  • Provide methodological expertise and support to clinicians and researchers
  • Analyse and interpret complex data sets using advanced statistical techniques and other tools
  • Support the preparation of research grant proposals and reports
  • Communicate research findings to various stakeholders ranging from policymakers to lay public
  • Carry out other job-related duties as assigned by PI/Co-PI/Director from time to time.

Qualification and Skills

Essential

  • PhD/equivalent degree in epidemiology, quantitative social science, or a related discipline or an MD with additional training in epidemiology
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in epidemiology/clinical epidemiology research demonstrating a strong grasp of research methodology, epidemiologic principles, and biostatistics
  • Proficiency in data analysis software such as R, SAS, Stata, SPSS, or Epi Info
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and demonstrated independent research skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Desirable

  • Experience in longitudinal/population-based research on brain aging/neurodegenerative disorders
  • Experience in program development, teaching, and participating in multidisciplinary collaborations
  • Strong expertise in conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses
  • Knowledge of health economics and decision analysis
  • Track record of securing research funding

Overview

This role involves working with large-scale neuroimaging datasets to uncover structural and functional brain connectivity changes. Using state-of-the-art computational tools for multimodal MRI and signal processing, the Neuroimaging Scientist will work with various research teams at CBR and contribute to uncovering relevant clinical associations.

Key responsibilities

  • Performing computational neuroimaging analyses, focusing on integrating structural MRI, diffusion MRI (dMRI), and functional MRI (fMRI) to examine connectivity changes and network dynamics.
  • Identifying biomarkers for neurodegeneration.
  • Developing data harmonization methods and conducting longitudinal MRI analysis.
  • Contributing to the development of diagnostic and imaging biomarkers.

Qualification and Skills

Essential

  • PhD in Computational Neuroimaging, Computational Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Psychology, Cognitive Science, or a related field. Candidates awaiting their PhD viva may also be considered based on merit.
  • Strong expertise in neuroimaging (dMRI, fMRI) and experience with imaging software (SPM, AFNI, FreeSurfer, FSL, MRtrix).
  • Proficiency in image processing and programming (MATLAB, Python, or R).
  • Published experience in quantitative imaging and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated independent research skills, including study design, data analysis, and result dissemination.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Desirable

  • Strong understanding of neuroanatomy and systems neuroscience.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML approaches.

Job opportunity for Clinician

There is a vacancy at a project funded by TATA Trusts in the Centre for Brain Research, IISc, Bangalore. We are looking for clinicians with a minimum qualification of MD/DNB who are keenly motivated to work with a senior group and take the initiative in conducting medical assessments of study participants, clinical examinations including complete physical and neurological examination, anthropometric assessment, overseeing investigations, coordinating research activities, and analyzing clinical and neuroimaging data.
Essential qualification: MD/DNB Medicine, Psychiatry, Physiology, Community Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Community Medicine

About CBR

The Centre for Brain Research (CBR) is an autonomous, non-profit research organization in the Indian Institute of Science campus, Bangalore. At CBR, we develop and foster large scale focused research programmes and build capacity for inter-disciplinary neuroscience research in the country that would set the stage for Indian scientists to contribute in a significant manner to the endeavour of understanding the aging brain and discovering rational therapies and cures for neurodegenerative disorders. An essential component in this research is the development and application of AI/ML algorithms using the large amount of data from longitudinal studies gathered over years.

Role and responsibilities

As DevOps engineer at CBR, you will be a member of the CBR Technology team, and will be responsible for the following on CBR’s in-house data centre high performance computing and storage systems.

  • Designing, building, deploying, and managing cloud applications and infrastructure: Using automation, configuration management, continuous integration, and continuous delivery (CI/CD) to enable containerized applications (Docker on Kubernetes).
  • Collaborating with development teams: Working closely with data scientists and AI/ML engineers to ensure application scalability and reliability, and to optimize CI/CD pipelines.
  • Implementing automation scripts: Developing and maintaining scripts for deployment, monitoring, and maintenance to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.
  • Ensuring security and compliance: Implementing security best practices and evaluating emerging cloud technologies to reduce operational costs and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving issues in cloud systems, and implementing monitoring and alerting systems to prevent downtime and improve system performance.

Key Skills and Qualifications

Technical skills:

  • Proficiency in DevOps tools (e.g. Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform, Chef), and knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
