Job description
The Data Scientist will play a central role in analysing and integrating complex biomarker datasets to advance discovery and validation of neurodegenerative disease biomarkers. This role requires expertise in data science, statistical modelling, and AI/ML approaches, combined with an understanding of biological and clinical contexts. The Data Scientist will collaborate closely with laboratory scientists, clinicians, and international partners, including the UK Dementia Research Institute, to extract meaningful insights from large-scale fluid biomarker, multi-omics, clinical, and imaging data. The Data Scientist will report to the Lead, Biomarker Centre of Excellence

 

 

Key responsibilities
• Develop and apply statistical, machine learning, and computational models to analyse biomarker, proteomic, and clinical datasets
• Integrate multimodal data from fluid biomarkers, genomics, imaging, and clinical assessments to identify predictive and diagnostic signatures
• Collaborate with research scientists and technicians to design data analysis plans and ensure rigorous data curation, cleaning, and quality control
• Lead the development and maintenance of secure, well-documented data pipelines, databases, and dashboards for internal and collaborative use
• Stay updated on methodological advances in AI/ML, bioinformatics, and biomarker analytics, and help translate these into the Centre’s workflows
• Foster strong linkages with international networks and maintain active engagement with the UK DRI Fluid Biomarker Lab to ensure global alignment and collaborative growth
• Contribute proactively to the broader vision of CBR, including capacity-building, outreach, and public engagement initiatives.

 

 

Qualifications
Essential
• Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related quantitative discipline
• Strong programming skills and familiarity with relevant data science libraries
• Proficiency in statistical analysis, data visualisation, and data management and ability to translate complex data insights into biological interpretations
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams

 

 

Desirable

• Demonstrable experience analysing large-scale biological or clinical datasets, preferably biomarker or omics data

• Strong understanding of data governance, privacy regulations, and ethical considerations in biomedical research

CBR conducts large-scale, community-based ageing studies in rural and urban populations to decipher cognitive changes due to normal ageing, Alzheimer’s disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders. We are currently looking for a Junior biostatistician and statistical programmer. This role will manage, clean, and analyze large-scale health and multimodal clinical datasets, ensuring data integrity and compliance with research protocols.
 
Essential qualification: Master’s in Biostatistics and a minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical data management. Proficiency in statistical software (R, SAS, STATA or Python) and data visualization tools is essential. 
 
Desirable: Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills. Experience with longitudinal population-based studies is highly desirable.

We are looking for clinicians with a minimum qualification of MD/DNB who are keenly motivated to work with a senior group and take the initiative in conducting medical assessments of study participants, clinical examinations including complete physical and neurological examination, anthropometric assessment, overseeing investigations, coordinating research activities, and analyzing clinical and neuroimaging data.
