Job Description

The candidate will be working in Dr. Jonas S. Sundarakumar‘s research group and will be required to work on data from a large, prospective, aging cohort, investigating the risk factors for dementia in the rural Indian population, with a focus on cardiometabolic and lifestyle-related risk factors. The candidate should be able to independently formulate sound hypotheses, perform data analysis, report, interpret and present the research findings in the form of publications and scientific presentations.

This is a contractual position renewable upon a satisfactory review of performance. The salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

The Centre for Brain Research (CBR) (https://www.cbr-iisc.ac.in/) is an autonomous centre of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Its mandate is to conduct cutting-edge research on normal and pathological aging of the brain to identify risk factors and protective factors for neurodegeneration. CBR is spearheading large-scale community-based aging studies in rural and urban populations to decipher cognitive changes due to normal aging, Alzheimer’s disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders. Detailed multi-modal assessments (including clinical, cognitive, biochemical, and brain imaging studies) with long-term follow-up are carried out in mission mode as part of these flagship research projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Timely reporting of structural and functional MRI assessments
  • Performing and reporting Echocardiography/Carotid Doppler assessments
  • Working closely with researchers conducting large-scale, human research studies on brain aging and neurodegeneration
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time by the Principal Investigators of the flagship research projects.

Qualification and Skills

Essential

  • Qualified National/State Medical Council-registered Radiologist (DMRD/MD/DNB in radiology)
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience that includes MRI, Ultrasound/Doppler.
  • Candidates are free to undertake clinical practice outside office hours.

Desirable

  • Prior research experience or keen interest in research
  • Proficiency in using Office 365 (particularly, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), PACS, use of MRI workstations and analysis software, and an ability and interest to pick up and use emerging tools.

We are looking for physicians with a minimum qualification of MD/DNB who are keenly motivated to work with geriatric participants and can take the initiative in conducting medical assessments of study participants, clinical examinations including complete physical and neurological examination, anthropometric assessment and overseeing investigations, coordinating research activities, and analyzing clinical and neuroimaging data.
