The Centre for Brain Research (CBR) is excited to invite applications for the CBRAIN Internship Program 2025. Building on the success of two previous cycles, this summer internship offers a unique opportunity for young, bright minds to immerse themselves in the vibrant research and innovation ecosystem at CBR.

This year, the program aims to provide participants with rigorous hand-on training in basic science research focused on studying the aging brain from molecular, cellular, and neurophysiological perspectives.

Under the mentorship of leading scientists in the field of neurodegenerative diseases, the interns will gain practical training in wet-lab techniques and engage in impactful research aimed at deciphering normal and pathological brain aging.

We invite passionate and aspiring students to join us in exploring the complexities of the aging brain and contributing to significant discoveries in this field.

Eligibility

  • Aspiring interns should be in the pre-final or final year of their Master’s (M.E/ M.Tech/ M.Sc) or Bachelor’s degree course (B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Sc) in India in Life Sciences/Biotechnology, that are relevant to the research projects at CBR.
  • Applicants in the pre-final or final year of MD/MS/MDS/MPH/MBBS are also encouraged to apply.
  • The internship is meant for motivated applicants with a keen interest in research on the aging brain. Specific topics for the internship are available here.

Salient features

  • The internship at CBR will typically last for 3 months. Shorter internships may not be accommodated. Based on the candidate’s interest and profile, longer engagements may be considered.
  • During the internship, each intern will work closely with a researcher at CBR. There may also be opportunities to contribute to collaborative projects under the guidance of multiple researchers. The topics available for internships are provided in the online application form; applicants must indicate their top 3 preferences.
  • A consolidated stipend of INR 20,000 per month will be provided by CBR. Interns will have to take care of accommodation and travel arrangements on their own.
  • During the program, interns will be required to adhere to CBR’s working hours and other applicable norms. They will have the opportunity to actively participate in CBR events such as journal clubs and research seminars.
  • At the end of the program, the intern will be required to submit a detailed report summarizing the training and accomplishments. There may also be additional requirements, such as a poster presentation, which must be completed satisfactorily to receive the internship certificate.

Application process

  • The application form is currently closed. Results will be announced on the CBR website tentatively by the end of May 2025. Please note that phone calls to the CBR Office will not be entertained.
  • An important part of the application is a write-up outlining the applicant’s motivation to apply to the program and describing how the internship will aid in progress towards their career goals.
  • Referee details are required as part of the application. However, applicants should only arrange for the submission of letters of recommendation if requested. Recommendation letters are not required to be submitted along with the initial application.
  • The selected candidates will be asked to submit official no-objection certificates from their department or institution heads.
  • CBR’s decision on all applications will be final.
